No War – the peaceful resolution of conflict.

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. TW-CND View through outer perimeter fence of Molesworth USAF Base,

Winter 1986 (film: XP1, Camera: Agfa Silette I)

At the time the BBC reported that the twin towers were built to withstand a direct  airliner collision, as if the planes would have bounced off without doing other damage,  and demonstrated the quality of American technology.

I wrote to BBC Radio 4′s PM programme a few months latter

“So much evidence was claimed to exist so soon after the terrorist act in New York, I wonder if a comparison with the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbour and the belief that the US let it happen so they would be drawn in to the war can be drawn? Is the UK’s involvement in the bombing due to a second world war debt to USA? If so the pay back is unreasonable.” Although unpublished I was also struck by the way the BBC reports drew a comparison with Pearl Harbour, without completing the paragraph presumably on drawing US into war.

Recall the boxes of Anthrax that washed up on the Dorset coast after the ships sailed for Iraq? US forces used Napalm in Iraq, then lied about it (this story was on indymedia).

My personal position: from Andrew Lohmann

I am a Labour Southborough Town Councillor and was successfully re-elected on 1 May 2003.  Both my parents were active Labour Party, and my Grandfather born 1892 was a socialist. This war is not in my name, or the UN. If you wish to stand with us we can regain are party from those who chose to appease Bush and possibly break International Law. – I was here first, you will have to to come and take my party card off me if you don’t like what I say.

The first Labour MP Keir Hardy included a pacifist agenda in the party manifesto. Labour Against the War Alternatively Cut up your LP membership card (not recommended)

Comment: 45 Minutes is a Red Herring – The substantive point is that New Labour went to War, with Conservative and Lib-Dem support, but not all Labour MP’s it’s party, or the people despite:-

No UN Resolution (it was repeatedly reported the government wish for one),

No substantive resistance to weapons inspection & destruction,

UN report estimating 1.26 Million people would be killed as a consequence of War and it’s aftermath’s (disease – to come).

This was all in addition to 400,000 to 1 Million killed due to sanctions, and 100,000-200,000 due to the previous Bush Gulf War.

This picture was on a web page celebrating US  forces. This came from a link from http://justnicephotos.homestead.com/LongTimeComing.html on an email to me claiming Peace and caring for Animals.

Sadly only caring for themselves as usual

Dr David Turner of Canterbury tells me and many other readers

Just fancy that …

“Of course the people don’t want war… that is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it’s always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it’s a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.”

Dear Sir’s:

You can clearly see the white flag, and the green uniform of the Iraqi soldiers, Also the faces of the US soldiers are clear, to identify them.

Also notice: The Iraqi prisoners are without helmets, and weapons.

Dear Sirs: Please, circulate the censored pictures as widely as possible.

This is a war crime.

1,000-2,000 TONS Depleted Uranium Spread Over Iraq’s Cities http://www2.iraqwar.ru/iraq-read_article.php?articleId=5813&lang=en

The uranium and its radioactive decay products will remain toxic for over 4 billion years…and will slowly destroy the genetic future of the Iraqi people.

(EDITOR’s NOTE: please note that I have no idea how dangerous this low level Poison is, it is possible cluster bombs are equally important). It crosses my mind that DU Warheads and Cluster Bombs are like mines and come in to the category as weapons that are illegal, like dumb-dumb bullets, and gas. In the case of DU if it is very poisonous and could cause significant genetic defects to Iraqis, and I note Geoff Hoon appears to have accepted that in stating that UK troop’s will be decontaminated, then UN can declare US & UK have conducted Genocide.

In either case the UN could act against UK & US, but for the usually legal caveat that they don’t make judgement against

anyone who is big and powerful.

The peace has been lost, spoils and other looting are happening – what do we do now?

* Make UN central to interim running of Iraqi. (see CASI on resolution 1472)

* Spoils not be taken.

* During the interim period the people be educated in a Iraqi way, without erasing the resistance to war, or the oppression which occurred before and since the first Golf War by there own and outside influences.

* Oil not be taken unless the Iraqi people wish that. That means Iraqi control of European companies which own the oil rights, as well as control of US companies which are waiting to come in.

* The imposition so called western ways such as: home delivered pizza, pictures of scantily clad people, obesity and excessive consumption not replace Iraqi ways.

* So called UK/US/European democracy not be imposed.

* Bad aspects of Bathist party be routed out of all aspects of Iraqi infrastructure, instead of US plan to replace 20-60 people. Therefore something not unlike the war trials after WW2 or SA’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

Over 1 Million Iraqi Children Might Die in War – Secret UN Document Campaign Against Sanctions on Iraq

And it gets worse:

Bush refuses to rule out nuclear weapons Scotsman 27, March 2003

President George W Bush today refused to rule out the prospect of US forces using nuclear weapons if they were subjected to a chemical or biological attack in Iraq Speaking at a joint press conference with Tony Blair at Camp David, the US president was asked whether, if coalition forces were subjected to a chemical weapons attack by Saddam Hussein, the US would use its nuclear capability.

Mr Bush replied: “If he uses weapons of mass destruction, it will just prove our case. And we will deal with it. We have got one objective in mind, that is victory. And we will achieve victory.”

When asked how long the war would last, Mr Bush said: “However long it takes to win.”

Many years ago Earl Mountbatten said On the occasion of the presentation of the Louis Weiss Foundation Peace Prize to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), at Strasbourg on 11th May 1979. Mountbatten’s speech extract below:-

‘How can we just stand by and do nothing to prevent the destruction of our world? Einstein, whose centenary we celebrate this year, was asked to prophecy what weapons could be used in the Third World War. I am told he replied to the following effect: “On the assumption that a Third World War must escalate to nuclear destruction, I can tell you what the Fourth World War will be fought with – bows and arrows.”‘

The Peace Camp outside USAF Fairford (3)

Police are stopping anyone entering the Peace Camp and they are confiscating any sleeping bags, one man even had his quilted jacket taken from him. Although such tactics are being used to deter the peace campers the camp continues and the campers are determined to remain at the site.

The B52′s are continuing to leave Fairford with 12 ‘Smart Bombs’ under their wings. The ‘Smart Bombs’ have a navigation system which allows them to be used for specific targets but in the fuselage are 25 small high explosive bombs that are completely unguided, these are the same bombs that were used in Vietnam for carpet bombing.  The B52′s are leaving Fairford with 12 ‘Smart Bombs’ and 25 small high explosive bombs but are returning to Fairford without them, this has been witnessed by the Peace Campers at Fairford. One of the Peace campers stated that prior to the B52′s leaving Fairford with ‘Smart Bombs’ and carpet bombs, there has been aircraft leafleting over Iraq.

The Peace Campers of Fairford are very concerned that this information is not going out to people via the mainstream media and are requesting that this information is circulated to independent media outlets – in order that people know what is currently happening.

The Peace Camp outside USAF Fairford (2) – 1April 2003

Drew tells me on 23-03-03 that; The peace activism at Fairford is going very well. The peace camp is growing, the message about an alternative to war is getting across, and the Americans are spending loadsofmoney in defending the base.

The main deterrents to entering the base are now not very subtle – Gurkha's every 200 yards around the perimeter, 3 soldiers with rifles guarding each B52, and a Blackhawk helicopter with surveillance equipment and Marines.

NEWS From Drew at Fairforth RAF (USAF) Base: (1)

I have recently become more and more convinced that the way to resolve the Iraq crisis does not involve starting a war. Having missed the 2 demonstrations in London because of work I have decided to commit myself to oppose the war by being part of a peace camp at RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire, probably until the end of the bombing of Iraq.

“RAF” Fairford is an airfield owned by the Ministry of Defence but operated by the US Air force. It’s purpose is to provide a European base for American strategic bombers in time of war. The base is one of 3 in the world outside the US that is capable of supporting the B2 stealth bomber. It can also support B52s and B1s. At present there are 14 B52s, engaged in training missions and clearly preparing for war. The B2s have been sent to Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean, which may at least in part be due to the direct action at Fairford making the base insecure.

The presence of the bombers has provided a focus for protesters, most of whom have marched and left banners on the gates. A small number of people having entered the base through the perimeter fence, some of whom engaged in subversive acts such as eating all the cheeseburgers in the canteen. Gate 10 has become a focus for protests, with banners on the fence and now a permanent presence of a couple of tents, a wood stove and some scruffy but determined people. I have been part of this vigil for the last week. It is a very strange place to be living like a homeless person a few yards from the American war machine, watching the base and maintaining a presence 24/7. The Anti-Terrorism Act(2000) applies up to one mile form the base which means searches of whoever looks subversive and the arrest of anyone who apparently poses a threat to the base – I was arrested for “prevention of a breach of the peace” whatever that means! No crime and no evidence so I was released without charge from police station after having beeen locked up. The planes are guarded by soldiers with assault rifles. But there is also a great deal of support form British people who think that the war is wrong and barbaric – quite a contrast between the two!!!

It is a peaceful protest – opposing by talk and presence rather than violence. Last week the Americans built a new boundary fence right through our camp with no warning so we do seem to be being an effective thorn.

There was an article about the camp in the Guardian last Monday.

On the 15 February the trains were packed as was the platform at Tunbridge Wells Station. I never imagined so many would go to the Stop the War Demo.

First Person – Stop_the_War -_Courier News Paper 21-02-03

More people were killed by war in the 20th century than the sum all killed in previous centuries by war, whether the myth is true or not; it does not have to be like this!

Peace Vigil’s in Tunbridge Wells precinct every Saturday afternoon join us for a while from 2pm.

The Labour Party has always been about empowering working people. It certainly has empowered and annoyed people. The Labour Party was formed in about 1900 by the Unions, & Fabians. Prior the first Independent Labour Party MP Keir Hardy included a pacifist agenda in the party manifesto. Like the Toll Puddles Martres the ILP is at the core of Labour movement’s history. As an old Labour Party and pacifist friend (George Lott) says, “I was here first” – you will have to to come and take my party card off me if you don’t like what I say. Labour against the war

The UK & Aircraft Crashes in USA September 2001

“Daisy Cutter” an innocent sounding toy to play with but it is a big bomb. “Daisies” are people and “Cutter” means killing lots of them, and is not a game.

A quote I found in email from Scientist for Global Responsibility may interest you:-

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. Hate multiplies hate, violence multiplies violence, and toughness multiplies toughness in a descending spiral of destruction….The chain reaction of evil–hate begetting hate, wars producing more wars–must be broken, or we shall be plunged into the dark abyss of annihilation.”

Martin Luther King, Jr., Strength To Love, 1963

On the day of the terrorist bombing 11 September, a tragedy was reported in the UK that is 5 million children suffer from asthma presumably the highest yet? I think we should be remembering those who suffer by torture, oppression, war, and terrorism. These are on going. Perhaps we should also consider all who’s life, or liberty is taken before their time.

The bombing is to do with oil, but vehicle fumes lead to asthma, the bombing may therefore result in a double tragedy. It would be better to help the people such as of Afghanistan and leave the oil in the ground.

I travel to Turkey on 8th October the day the American bombing started, two 250 seat Aeroplanes travel together one with 15 passengers the other with 40. On the day before aid agencies advised that food should not be air dropped as some would land in mined areas, and there-by kill people.
